The Wii was a huge breakthrough and mega hit for Nintendo back in 2006. They were pretty bruised up after the Gamecube generation and needed something to truly wow people with. The Wii delivered on a whole other level and even rivals were caught off guard. As time goes on, Nintendo has been shuttering online aspects of the Wii in order to free up resources on their end to build up current offerings. The shut down date for the Wii Shop channel is officially January 30th, 2019. After this point you won’t be able to redownload purchased titles, so if you want to secure your purchases I’d start downloading all that you want to keep before that day comes. You also have the option to move your content over to Wii U for safe keeping.
